Hi! I recently made a Discord which is where I'm currently doing progress updates :D I might do some steam/twitter posts about it in the future as well.
Absolutely loved it! Unfortunately had to reload the page before going to explore the final area, so all my crystals disappeared 😭. The different levels were really great for changing the pace up, loved the contrast between them, both in terms of mechanics as well as overall mood.I felt the progression of getting to know the controls and mechanism when I returned to the first level, it was very rewarding. I'll definitely return to this one once it releases on Steam, and try it out with a controller.
Very cool.
One note: Is there any reason for the X/◻ button to switch into roll mode? Seems like it might feel better / make more sense to just switch modes after moving for a bit and back when you stop for a couple seconds.
I dunno, It just kinda feels like a dead end input.
There is a roll switch button so you can use the slower walk mode when wanted. I use that when on platforms, or when I want to take in the environment more. There is also a niche case where you can switch mid-air to change your air control. Earlier on in the jam it was used more before I expanded some ground to prefer the roll movement. I also like the dumb lil waddle it does while walking haha. As I work on the full game, I'll think about how to incorporate the walk more if I can, or change it up a bit, for sure :D
There's a big problem with trying to enter the final area. For some reason whenever I try to reach the hidden island from the spring I touch an invisible death area and get sent back to the start.
Oh weird! Did you happen to fall out of that last vent prior to this? There was a bug that caused the Lost Isle's kill box to not go away once it was active. I'll be pushing a patch shortly to fix that since ratings are over!
Sorry for the late reply! I was able to play the game to the finish. This was a pretty neat game and I think you should expand on it. I'd love to see what you could come up with!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :D I have started making a full version of this, and you can wishlist on Steam if you want! Will see about putting it on itch as well.
It's a very cool little game. :) Definitely impressive to see how much you where able to make, in such a short time. I really like when the levels get more atmospheric. I have to admit, I got some problems with understanding the physics, but that just might be me tbh. Really cool game! :)
As for the physics, yeah they are a bit floaty and strange at times due to it being the first time I've made a 3d platformer controller haha. Tried to get close to something like Super Kiwi 64 as a base for character controller physics, but it did end up a bit floaty or "over-fast" at times. I'll be trying to tweak it for a post-jam update to feel more smooth!
Super cool to see you btw! Your games are always a pleasure to play :D
Very fun game. I think if this has controller support it would be fantastic. Because tbh I don’t see the keyboard and mouse as a very good game controller, much less for a platformer game like this haha.
But the player controller itself is really good. There’s one thing that trips me up though, which is the fact that air acceleration feels weird. It’s not very intuitive that you can gain a lot of horizontal distance when you’re already up in the air.
The music is cute, but I think it may feel a bit repetitive after some time. Sounds are fun, but a few are missing. I also think the audio mixing having the music a bit too loud and drowns out the sound effects make them less impactful. Should have an options menu.
Visuals are great, very GameCube aesthetics. There’s also a good amount of content considering the jam duration. Good job!
Thanks! The controller itself has controller support, but not the gui since I didn't have time for that. A friend played it on his controller and it seemed to work well!
The controller acceleration was very customized to what I wanted, but yeah I can see it being a bit wacky to others haha. I'll probably tweak it post-jam when I can update the game again :)
Also there is an options menu! It's in the pause menu (tab or esc (esc on webgl might need to press twice)).
Ok, I need a full game version of SpinniRolly64! The game is gorgeous, the controller is good, the music is so cool and atmospheric. I really could see me easily sinking hours in a long version of this. Great great work.
Small feedback: I felt a bit lost in the first area, maybe needs some bit more of guidance, although after that the levels feel more understendable. Love the introduction of new mechanics and different platforms.
Thank you :D I'll see about adding some slight guidance post-jam in some regard. What part of the first area got you lost? Was it the moving platform part and not seeing the button?

Where can I track development progress? I'm really eager to play full game once it releases!

Sorry about that!
I pushed the patch!
